November- December 2016: Essential Ingredients of Jesus Prayer Ministry

The disciples recognised the importance of prayer in the kingdom and out of all the things they most wanted was for Jesus to teach them to pray as in Luke 11: 1-4. Jesus’s ministry was enhanced with his prayer life and the importance of this was reflected in the amount of times he spent praying despite the fact that he was fully divine and also fully man. He understood the very essence of feeding of the Father constantly and knowing the heart of God concerning every issue or steps He was about to take on earth, He said I do nothing except as I see my Father does and even after achieving things on earth he continued in prayers. Prayer gives us an insight as to what is about to happen and also prepares us for the outcome. Jesus was a man of Prayer.

Matthew 14: 23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there

Genesis 18:17 The LORD said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do,

***Prayer is key*** ***Prayer is Relational***

Prayer is a relational tool used in communication. Communication is a two way dimensional tool of conversation which includes talking and listening to receive. Prayer is a powerful tool that helps to reveal the heart of God, it brings you to close proximity with the Almighty Father and gives insight to the depth of spiritual matters, it is a weapon of warfare against the enemy and as such the enemies does all things possible to stop our prayer life. When we have the love of God at heart, we will have passion to commune and develop the relationship through prayers. Jesus spent secluded time with the Father in prayers.

***Location is key***

Luke 4: 42 Now when it was day, He departed and went into a deserted place. And the crowd sought Him and came to Him, and tried to keep Him from leaving them;

Luke 5:16 So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.

Matthew 6: 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly

*** Love is Key***

Martin Luther once said I have so much to do in the day that I need 3 hours prayers to see me through.

Kingdom doors are open by using the right combination keys, Prayer starts from our believe system, for those that must come to God must first believe he exist and he is the rewarder of those who diligently seek him. Jesus exercised believe in his prayers and that is the reason he constantly sought God’s presence for all of His actions on earth. Praying can be in the form of asking and waiting on reply, it can be seeking the will of God and we can keep knocking (praying without ceasing) until the door is open.

Matthew 7: 7-11 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

Jesus explained that from a parental point of view that a father would not resist the request of his child but rather would make every effort to honour the request. It should also be noted that sometimes a father does not grant all request if such request would be detrimental to the child. Charles Spurgeon said “You may not always get what you ask, but you shall always have your real wants supplied.”

***Believe is key***

John 5: 24 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life…… but has passed from death into life

John 11:41-42 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.

***Jesus exercised believe even at the start of his prayer***

The Lord deals with the intent of the heart and prepares to meet us at the point of our prayer relationship, once the heart desires to pray it sends a signal to the heavenly realm to our father with our intention to commune and things begins to happen in that realm but we must bear in mind that the enemy of our soul also prowls about and can sometimes pick up the signal of fellowship, and begins to plot to block, disturb or causes hindrance to frustrate our prayer time. (Best friend calls, T.V programs, Family issues, personal issues, project time and many more). These are distractive devices of the enemy to delay or keep our mind off the fellowship time with God. We need to be disciplined to avoid missing the orchestrated timing of the heavenly realms. Jesus had a disciplined life of praying and often go away in order not to be disturbed or interrupted.

***Discipline and Timing are keys***

Jesus demonstrated all through his ministry that prayer requires our action to bring it to pass by praying at every given opportunity and engaging the Holy Spirit from his prayer at his Baptism till the death on the cross, he prayed as though it all depended on God but acted responsibly and obediently as though it depended on him.

John Wesley- “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can, like Jesus, we pray as though it all depended on God, but act responsibly and obediently as though it depended on us.”

Jesus prayed to solidified his relationship with the Father, worship, to present prevailing circumstances to him, thanksgiving, supplication, seek the will of the Father, intercession and in praying Jesus made us realise that God’s will surpasses all things we may make request for, the outcome is determined by Him for his purpose, Jesus prayed fervently with an outcry at the Garden of Gethsemane but in His last prayer he requested that the will of the Father be done.

***Prayer helps understand God’s will concerning a situation***

Matthew 26:42 Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless[e] I drink it, Your will be done.

Matthew 26:44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.

James 4:3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

1 John 5:14-15 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us -- whatever we ask -- we know that we have what we asked of him.

Charles Spurgeon “When God does not answer His children according to the letter, He does so according to the spirit. If thou askest for coarse meal, wilt thou be angered because He gives thee the finest flour?”

When Jesus asked for the cup be removed and God insisted on obedience, God did exceedingly and above his request by giving him the power over death, for he went into Hades and made a public spectacle of the devil by his resurrection and today because he humbled himself in obedience, God has given him a name above every other name on earth and in heaven.

***Prayer does not change the heart of God but helps change circumstances. ***

Hebrew 5:7 (NLT) During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.

***Obedience is key***

Prayer enhances our faith and builds our confidence in His ability to do all things, and sometimes prayer needs to be supported by fasting as Matthew 17: 21

The effectiveness of Jesus Prayer life was based on principles and understanding of the relational Father

• He believed and had faith in God that He answers prayers- John 11: 41-42; Mark 9:23; Matthew 17:20
• He avoided distraction by having quite moments away from people- Luke 5: 16
• He knew when and how to be persistent- Matthew 26:44
• He knew when to pray communally- Matthew 18:19; Luke 9:28 ; Matthew 17:1; Mark 9:2
• He knew the heart of worship- Matthew 18: 20
• The temple is a house of prayer- Mark 11:17
• The key to Prayer is the Holy Spirit- Luke 3: 21-22; Matthew 3:16; Romans 8:26-27
• Prayer needs support by Fasting- Matthew 17:21
• Jesus offered all night prayer- Luke 6:12
• He prayed in the early morning-Mark 1: 35
• He gives thanks to the Father- Matthew 11:25
• He Prayed before and after every ministration- Luke 6: 12-13; Matthew 14:23; Mark 6:46
• He prayed before confronting issues- Luke 9:18
• Jesus Prayed before eating-Matthew 14:19; Luke 24:30-31
• Jesus prays against temptations- Luke 22: 39-41
• Jesus Prayed for others- John 17: 9-29

***The Holy Spirit is needed for Spiritual Communication***

From the above we might observe that Jesus was given to praying constantly and at times persistently with the view to be in fellowship with the Father and getting directions from him and this in itself should give us insight to the importance of prayer in our lives and nothing is too minute to bring to the Father. He is a relational God and expect us to fellowship with Him daily.

Prayer is not always about asking but it can be moments of being in His presence and soaking up the atmosphere of His presence.

1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Yonggi Cho was a man of prayer and he had an effective prayer structured life in the form of praying through a symbolic Tabernacle which takes three hours of prayer time daily. We can steadily build a prayer time of at least an hour daily as Jesus questioned His disciples at the Garden of Gethsemane why they could not keep awake with him just for one hour.

We will continue keeping you in our prayers as Prophet Samuel did for his people "Far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you." (1 Samuel 12:23)

Be blessed and know I love you all with the passion of Christ.

December 2016: A month of sombre reflection and uncommon Favour

As we look back onto the wondrous work of your hands and count your blessings and your kindness in the months gone by (Psalm 40: 4-5) and look at your servanthood (John 13: 1-17). Your preference to serve rather than to be served (Matthew 20: 25-25).

May these reflection of your true self be mirrored reflection I see of myself and let the understanding of the grace of serving bring about my blessed assurance in You.

In serving you receive uncommon favour and blessing in the Kingdom (Luke 22:28-30).Be diligent in serving and let the grace in this season bless the works of your hand in Jesus name.

May the Lord of harvest and seasons give you abundance of grace, may his face shine upon you and his countenance rest with you and may his glory radiate within you and stay with you in Jesus mighty name. Amen
